A. About East China University of Science and Technology

East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) is located in Shanghai, a center of commerce, finance, trade and shipping of China. Founded in 1952 and originally named East China Institute of Chemical Technology, ECUST is the National research-oriented university directly regulated by Ministry of Education in China, National ‘Project 211’ University, National ‘985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform' University, National ‘Double First-Class Initiative' University, QS ranking of 32nd in China.

ECUST possesses 17 schools and colleges, covers 11 disciplines such as science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, art etc. There are over 28,000 full-time students including 16,760 undergraduates, 9,521 master students and 1,986 doctoral students. According to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) Database, 8 disciplines in ECUST rank top 1% in the world, namely Chemistry, Materials Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Biology and Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Agriculture Science, Environmental Engineering, among of which Chemistry and Engineering rank top 1‰.

B.Scholarship Programs

ECUST offers both Chinese Government Scholarship Type A for all degree programs and Type B for graduate programs, which covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and monthly living allowance.

a)Qualifications for Graduate Programs

  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health, with a valid degreeBachelor’s degree for Master applicants, Master’s degree for Ph.D. applicants.

  • Applicants should meet the language requirements

  • Chinese-taught Programs: minimum requirements of HSK 5 for 210 or HSK 6 for 180. Those who’ve been granted bachelor or master’s degree from a Chinese-taught program at a Chinese university can apply for exemption from HSK requirements.

  • English-taught Programs: minimum requirements of TOEFL 80, or IELTS 6.0, or provide proof of English-taught program during previous degree. Native English speakers do not need to submit the English Proficiency Certificate.

b)Qualifications for Undergraduate Programs (Chinese taught programs only)

  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health, with a valid high school diploma or above.

  • Applicants must be aged over 16.

C. Application Documents

1.Documents for Graduate Programs

a)Copy of passport photo page.

b)Copy of graduation and degree certificate of the highest education.

c)** Prospective diploma recipients must submit an official document issued by the current school to prove the current study status and expected graduation date. If applicants are admitted, a scan copy of the graduation and degree certificate shall be sent before registration.

d)Transcripts of all courses at the highest academic level.

e)Proof of Chinese or English language proficiencyHSK score obtained on and after September 1st 2021 is valid.

f)Acceptance LetterPlease be sure to upload if any. 

g)Two Recommendation Letters in English or Chinese from Professor or Associate Professor.

** Recommendation Letters should be issued after 1st September 2022 and contain the following information: title, institute, contact information, e-mail and signature of the referee.

h)A Study Plan with a minimum of 800 words and a detailed Research Proposal if prepared.

i)Other supporting documents e.g. published papers, awards & certificates

j)Non-criminal Record Certificate. If applicant is unable to get one at home country, please sign Non-criminal Record Affirmation. International students studying in China can submit a certificate of no bad performance issued by university.

k)Statement of Financial Support.

l)Copy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The original form should be kept by applicants. The physical examination must cover all of the items listed in the form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please plan your physical examination schedule carefully as the result is valid for only 6 months.

In addition to the above application documents, supplementary documents shall be provided when necessary. Application documents will not be returned, whether the application is successful or not.
